Events in Estonia on 9.–11. jaanuaril 2026: ideas for a winter weekend

The second weekend of January brings top-level sports, club music, family events and relaxed culture to Estonia all at once. If you're looking for which events in Estonia 9.–11. January 2026 are taking place and don't want to spend half the evening clicking between different calendars, this article makes life a little easier.

Here you'll find on one page:

  • international sporting competitions in Otepää and Tallinn,

  • concerts and club nights in Tallinn, Tartu and Pärnu,

  • children's performances and family days,

  • art exhibitions and winter light trails,

  • smaller but exciting community events across Estonia.

For each event, you will find the name, date, location and a direct link to the organiser’s or ticket seller’s page, so you can click through immediately and double-check the details.

International sport: Otepää and Tallinn

Let’s start with the biggest—the top sporting events that bring both local and international visitors to Estonia.

1. FIS Nordic Combined World Cup – Otepää stage

  • When: 9.–11. January 2026

  • Where: Tehvandi Spordikeskus, Valga mnt 12/2, Otepää

  • More information / tickets: https://www.owc.ee

Otepää will become a true winter sports capital this weekend – the Nordic Combined World Cup event is taking place. The programme features ski jumping and cross-country skiing, with the world's top athletes and Estonia's own favourites in attendance. An ideal destination if you want to combine sporting excitement, winter nature and later parties in Otepää or Tartu.

2. 15th Jeti Cup 2026 (curling tournament)

At the same time, Tallinn will host the international curling tournament Jeti Cup, bringing amateur and professional teams from several countries to Tondiraba jäähall. If you want to see how curling is actually played, rather than only watching it in Olympic broadcasts, this is a great opportunity.

Tallinn: theatre, ballet, tribute nights and children's theatre

The capital has a particularly packed cultural programme on 9.–11. January 2026: classical ballet, rock’n’roll, a children's performance and a chamber concert.

3. DAVID BOWIE 10 YEARS – tribute night

Ten years have passed since David Bowie's death, and the occasion will be marked at Paavli Kultuurivabrik with a major tribute night. Expect Bowie's music, DJs, visuals and a fitting vintage atmosphere. Ideal for those who want to actually party on the weekend rather than just stroll around a fair.

4. The Swamp Shakers – live @ Scotland Yard Pub

Performing in the rockabilly and swing scene, The Swamp Shakers takes the stage at the legendary Scotland Yard pub. If you're looking for live music, a chance to dance, and a pub atmosphere, this is one option for a Friday evening in Tallinn.

5. Clowns Fly to Mars / Clowns Fly to Mars – children's performance

An imaginative family show for children in which clowns decide to… fly to Mars. Light, visual, and funny – a good reason to come to the city with the family and combine the theatre, for example, with a walk in the Old Town and a stop at a café.

6. “The Nutcracker” – Tchaikovsky's ballet at Rahvusooper Estonia

Although Christmas is over according to the calendar, the season of „Pähklipureja“ continues at the Estonian National Opera. A classic Christmas ballet that is both child-friendly and nostalgic for adults – ideal if you're looking for a festive evening after the workweek or a winter Saturday.

Tartu and Southern Estonia: rock, chamber music and a fire festival

In Southern Estonia, you can combine the Otepää World Cup event, concerts in Tartu, and smaller community events.

7. Kurjad plaanid Live

In Tartu, the band Kurjad plaanid takes over the night with an alternative rock/indie concert at Tartu Aleksandri klubi. A good fit for those who want somewhere to continue spending time after the daytime World Cup event in Otepää.

8. “The Lion’s Bride” – Karis Trass and Rasmus Andreas Raide

The intimate concert performance “The Lion’s Bride” (in Estonian, “Lõvipruut”) combines poetic text and classical music. An intimate evening for those who prefer a smaller hall and focused attention.

9. The Swamp Shakers – live @ Gunpowder Cellar

If you missed Swamp Shakers in Tallinn, there's another chance at Püssirohukelder. Tartu's legendary cellar pub + live music = a sure-fire Saturday night combination.

10. Christmas Tree Bonfire and Drum Show – Christmas tree bonfire show

The Christmas tree bonfire show held in Tartu combines a practical activity (disposing of your old Christmas tree) with an experience – there is a drum show, fire and music on site. It is more of an atmospheric event than a traditional concert, but that is precisely what makes it memorable.

Pärnu: music, parties, children and exhibitions

In Pärnu, you can spend an entire weekend from 9 to 11 January 2026 at concerts, clubs and galleries.

11. “My First Concert: CELEBRATION” – a musical performance for children (R)

In the format created by Pärnu Linnaorkester, “My First Concert” is a story about how to truly introduce children to music. Short, playful and with a clear plot—a great start for discovering the world of music.

12. “Minu esimene kontsert: PIDUPÄEV” – table offer (Sat)

  • When: 10 January 2026 at 11:00

  • Where: Pärnu kontserdimaja, Aida 4, Pärnu

  • More information / tickets: same as above, second performance

If Friday does not suit you, you can also see the same production on Saturday. It is a good opportunity to combine the concert with a seaside walk and a family lunch in central Pärnu.

13. DJ Erko Käärats at MUM Cafe

MUM Cafe offers Erko Käärats's music on Friday evening DJ – more of a lounge/club vibe, suitable both for dancing and simply spending time with friends.

14. Toomas Anni – concert at Trahter Postipoiss

If you are looking for something more intimate and traditionally Estonian, Toomas Anni at the tavern is a fairly safe choice: dance music, songs, singing along and the atmosphere of a classic Friday night at a tavern.

15. Endla Jazzklubi – “Keelepeksjad”

Pärnu's Endla Jazzklubi invites you to an evening with the band “Keelepeksjad” – jazz, a relaxed atmosphere and the ambience of a theatre café. Ideal for those who prefer a more peaceful but meaningful evening of music.

16. Mini RäpiFest – rap festival in Pärnu

Mini RäpiFest brings together various rappers and listeners for one evening. If you like hip-hop, bass and parties that last all night, Tempel is the place to go.

17. Parvepoisid – dance evening at Trahter Postipoiss

On Saturday evening, Trahter Postipoiss will be taken over by the band Parvepoisid – pure Estonian-language dance music until the early hours of the morning.

18. DJ Kert Allas at MUM Cafe

If you missed MUM on Friday, you can dance to DJ Kert Allas on Saturday or simply listen to good music.

Pärnu: exhibitions, reuse and family events

In addition to music, there are several interesting exhibitions and special activities for children in Pärnu this weekend.

19th Estonian artists’ tapestries – “Beautiful Time”

The tapestry exhibition “Ilus aeg” brings together works by Estonian artists – it is a good place to visit when you want to step away from the hustle and bustle for a while but still see and experience something.

20. XIII Recycling Exhibition “Give New Life”

The upcycling exhibition focuses on how to give things a “new life” – design, art objects, and practical examples. An ideal place to find inspiration if green thinking resonates with you.

21st Estonian ceramic artists’ group exhibition “Creating Space”

The joint exhibition of ceramic artists “Ruumi loomine” ends this weekend, so this is the last chance to see it.

22. Ronimaa's 1st birthday – open day

Pärnu’s Ronimiskeskus Ronimaa is celebrating its first birthday with an open house—a great opportunity for children and adults to try climbing and get to know the local centre.

23. Talvevalguse promenaad

Talvevalguse promenaad is a walking route with light installations, ideal for an evening stroll with family or a partner. It's not an “event with fixed start and end times,” but rather an experience you can enjoy whenever it suits you.

Elsewhere in Estonia: packages, a chess tournament and art

In addition to the major centres, events can also be found elsewhere in Estonia on the second weekend of January.

24. Tallinn–Wagenküll–Tallinn travel package: a day at Wagenkülli Talvevõlumaa

This is a ready-made day trip package: transport, lunch, a spa visit and a walk through the winter wonderland around Taagepera Castle. A good solution if you do not want to plan the logistics yourself.

25th Rapid Chess Tournament in Memory of Paul Keres

A rapid chess tournament in memory of Paul Keres will take place in Narva-Jõesuu—a good reason to travel to Ida-Virumaa if chess is close to your heart or you are looking for something different from concerts and fairs.

26. Raija Merilä “Figurative Paintings” – art exhibition in Jäneda

  • When: 5 January – 30 May 2026 (also open 9.–11.01)

  • Where: Jäneda mõis and raamatukogu, Jäneda

  • More information:

How can you make the most of this weekend?

  • If you are going to the Otepää World Cup stage, plan your Friday–Sunday so that on either Friday or Saturday you make it to Tartu in the evening for a concert (Kurjad plaanid, Swamp Shakers, “The Lion’s Bride”), or return home at a leisurely pace on Sunday, stopping at a gallery or café along the way.

  • If you are in Pärnu, you can take the children to a concert on Friday morning, go to a jazz event or rap festival in the evening, visit exhibitions on Saturday followed by a party in the evening, and on Sunday take the family to the Talvevalguse promenade or Ronimaa open day.

  • In Tallinn there is a wide range of options: daytime culture (the ballet “The Nutcracker”, a tour of Kadriorg or the Old Town), followed in the evening by a Bowie tribute, live bands, or children’s theatre for the youngest members of the family. You can also stop by Tondiraba jäähall to watch curling.

If you want to keep track of all this in one place and avoid navigating between ten different pages, it is worth using a single hub – for example, the Easyfind portal, where small businesses, event organisers and service providers post their listings. This turns the words “events in Estonia in January” from just a phrase on Google into a concrete weekend plan.
